A team of 12 young men and women is working with ECONET as young leaders towards the community empowerment and sustainable development of NT & DNTs and tribal. They are located in districts – namely, Akola, Amaravati, Dharashiv, Jalgaon, Nanded, Nandurbar, Pune, Sangli, Satara and Yavatmal. Each of them works in 10 villages with NT & DNTs and tribal populations, through their 240-250 volunteers. The key mandate of young leaders is to tap youth in the villages from the DNT & NT communities with a passion, commitment and potential of becoming a social catalyst. Livelihood and Accessing entitlements under the different socio-economic schemes are another area that these young leaders are working on. Many have developed models of livelihood options for the DNT & NT youth, otherwise not able to pursue their traditional occupations. Young leaders through their excellent rapport with the local government and other agencies related to agriculture, tribal development, education, panchayat institutions, hospitals, educational institutions have showcased small but innovative experiments towards changing the social, political and economic situations of NT & DNTs. Political representation and participation of NT & DNT men and women has been one the milestone achieved by the young leaders.
